Aquarium Shark Dive Now Offered at the NC Aquarium

When you hear the word shark, do you think of the movie Jaws? If so, then the last place you want to be is the in the water! Divers and surfers alike have been fascinated with sharks and equally nervous and thrilled with being in the water with them. Today, more and more people are getting certified to dive so they can experience the adventure of seeing the ocean’s seascapes and animals firsthand. Certified divers who are interested in seeing sharks up close and personal can dive into the Shark Dive Adventure at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. The new guest diver program, Aquarium Shark Dive, is the chance of a life time! Dive in the 285,000 gallon Graveyard of the Atlantic exhibit with hundreds of fish, 8 Sandbar Sharks, 4 Sand Tiger Sharks, and a Nurse Shark. Look for shark’s teeth, take pictures, and feel the exhilaration of coming within inches of the sharks that are, believe it or not, more afraid of you are than you are of them! Each dive lasts about 40 minutes; included in the $195 cost is admission into the Aquarium, use of all dive gear for the dive, photo, and a shark dive t-shirt. Dives are conducted Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m., 11 a.m., 1:45 p.m., with weekend dives by appointment only. Discounts are available for active military, Aquarium Society members, and IBM Club members. BrentGrowing up as a kid in Virginia Beach, Brent has always been surrounded by water. Sailing, surfing, fishing and skateboarding were his passions and foundation that drew him near the ocean. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and graduated with a Bachelor's in Communication Arts & Design. Having worked at several companies in Richmond as an Art Director, and living away from the ocean for about 10 years, he and his wife decided to make the move back East with their sights on the Outer Banks. With surfing being his favorite hobby, the Outer Banks was a perfect fit. In 2005, Brent headed back to a more familiar and welcoming beach community and now lives in Kill Devil Hills with his wife and 2 daughters. Brent has run a Graphic Design business (BN Design & Advertising) for over 12 years.
