Old school Punk band from Orange County, CA blends punk rock with surf music. The result: just about every surfer/skater used this music to get the adrenaline flowing before a session. I know I did. Pay some respect to this pioneering band that led the way for many to follow. Their live show is highly energetic… even to this day (over 3 decades later). They are scheduled to play the Port O’ Call in Kill Devil Hills, NC, this Friday night, Sept. 23, 2011. Show starts at 10pm. $20.

I’m on day 2 of listening to this band non-stop and can’t seem to keep my head from moving. This from the band’s bio pageWhere hip-hop meets reggae, where jazz is played with dirty hands, where a Cuban line meets an Aussie rule, where nothing seems in place but sounds like many places played in one earthy chord. This is the island where THE CAT EMPIRE was born. I couldn’t agree more. Do yourself a favor and check out more from this band.

A great new band from the UK – now touring in the US on the Warped Tour and opening up for Social Distortion. Give them a listen and share the sounds. Reminds me a lot like Joe Strummer from The Clash. You can hear more music HERE.

With influences such as Radiohead, The Police, and Wilco, Jailbox has formed a devout sound, thriving on traditional cornerstones of songwriting. Yet the group presents innovation strongly with constant,  lush harmonies, and layers of energetic percussion. Thus, Jailbox acquires listeners through authenticity and honesty of song, within a personal sonic reality. You can catch this independent band at The Pit on July 5th.  For more information on the band, visit: http://jailboxmusic.com/

Ever hear of “The Mars Volta”? If not, get ready for a wall of sound – complex, in-your-face, and explosive with rich textural and cultural sounds. It’s not for everyone which surprised me to find this youtube gem of them playing on the David Letterman show. This is surely a sign that the general public is starting to break out of their close-minded “Pop” culture and experiment with something new. (long overdue in my opinion). Enjoy the video…
