Head down to Jennette’s Pier tomorrow to see all the action and watch surf shop teams battle it out for the $10,000 cash prize during the 2012 Oakley Surf Shop Challenge. Teams include: WRV VA, WRV NC, Sweetwater Surf Shop (2011 winner), 17th St Surf Shop, Coastal Edge, OBBC, Whalebone, The Pit, Freedom Surf and Village Surf Shop. Unfortunately, the surf looks pretty weak so hopefully there will be a little bump in the water by the time it kicks off (tentatively scheduled to start at 8am). This is a ridiculously crazy looking wave. Catch the right one and you’ll never forget it for the rest of your existence. Watch it all the way to the end where Brandon Smith does just that. WOW

For day 2 of 12, conditions look ridiculously fun and is expected to get better as the day goes on. Super groomed out right point waves with some overhead faces…… jealous. Currently in round 2 / heat 4, Patrick Gudauskas is against Josh Kerr. So far the goofy footers have been having the advantage. Check out all the action by clicking the banner above!

This is one pool party worth attending….Point Break Surf Park is opening their first surfing park in Spring 2013 in Hanover, Virginia. Their Surf Park will be the first complete surfing park of its kind in the United States. Pros: jellyfish and shark free, consistent waves at a push of a button, head high surf every day. Cons: it never gets over head high.

Master in “carve-and-flow”, Queensland surfer Michael Peterson was arguably the best surfer in the 70′s – winning 3 Bells trophies and several Australian titles. Soon after his competitive peak, Peterson began to suffer from drug-induced mental illness and died at the age of 59 from what was reportedly a heart attack.

Some fun waves today. The water is getting warmer as well. Only need a full suit & booties. These pictures were taken in-between Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head around 8-10am today.
