On Saturday afternoon (August 20, 2011) a late summertime festival will hit the tri-village area of Hatteras Island – brought to you FREE by Global Surf Network. The Delimiters Band will kick the yearly ritual off at 4:00 pm followed by Pro-Surfer Jesse Hines and his band around 6:00 pm. Then at 7:30 pm master guitarist Jay Rakes will be rockin’ it with The Jay Rakes Band. And that’s just for starters. Right after the bands on a Big Screen you can enjoy some International Independent Surf Films and meet Pro-Surfer Jesse Hines, Professional Surf Photographer Mickey McCarthy, and witness for yourself a very creative and powerful film “Noah’s Arc”: A most interesting up close story about Pro-Surfer Noah Snyder that will have none other than Nic Mclean, Film Director in attendance. So come out and enjoy this years Hatteras Island Surf Film Festival with your friends. Hopefully find some waves in the morning, enjoy some great music in the afternoon and watch some surf movies at night while socializing with your friends; both, old and new. The Outer Banks Sand Sculpture Festival will be held June 29-July 1 at Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head. Located across from Jockey’s Ridge State Park at milepost 12.5, the festival features the professional sand sculpting team Sandtastic. The work begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning (June 29) and will continue through mid-afternoon Thursday (June 30). The sand sculptures created at the Outer Banks Sand Sculpture Festival will be on display through the weekend. Other activities include kite making, face painting, toy demos, kid’s sand sculpture contest, free skin cancer screenings from The Outer Banks Hospital and live music from 1-4pm from Beach 104.1 -

Local Happenings: The Wingo de Mayo Festival (Saturday, May 7th at Native Vine)

The Wingo de Mayo Festival will take place on Saturday, May 7th at Native Vine in Point Harbor. This year’s event will benefit the Outer Banks Children At Play Museum, a non-profit organization that helps foster creativity in children through hands on learning. The Festival will feature two separate events consisting of the 6th Annual Wine and Beer Jam and the 3rd Annual Great Wing Cook Off. The Wine and Beer Jam (12-5pm) will offer guests more than 50 wines and beers from around the world to try. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day off. The Great Wing Cook Off pits local restaurants and individuals against each other. Guests can sample the wings and vote on their favorites! Tickets for the Wing Cook Off are $10 over 12 years, $5 8-12 years, and free under 8, and can only be purchased the day of the event. Advance tickets for the Wine and Beer Jam are available at Native Vine, Chillli Peppers, Children At Play or online at www.nativevine.com. Children are welcome and there is no charge for those not tasting wine and beer or tasting wings. Live music will be performed by Augmentals and OminOtago. If you like wine (and beer), then this is the festival for you! This Saturday and Sunday from 12-5pm, the festival will feature over 50 wines and beers from around the world — plus enjoy great food and live music from: Becky Kessler & Friends, Mojo Collins (solo) and Karl Werne Project. (To benefit the Currituck Animal Shelter) Bonus: The weather will be upper 60′s and low 70′s and sunny all weekend. Sounds like a good excuse to get outside and enjoy some spirits. -
