I’m on day 2 of listening to this band non-stop and can’t seem to keep my head from moving. This from the band’s bio page: Where hip-hop meets reggae, where jazz is played with dirty hands, where a Cuban line meets an Aussie rule, where nothing seems in place but sounds like many places played in one earthy chord. This is the island where THE CAT EMPIRE was born. I couldn’t agree more. Do yourself a favor and check out more from this band.

More similar bands that you might recognize include: Fishbone, Bad Brains, Mos Def, Erykah Badu, Pink Floyd, Massive Attack, King Crimson, Fugazi, Morcheeba…. you get the picture. A Pato Banton concert is an event not to be missed and an experience not to be forgotten. Positive Vibrations abound with a beat to keep you on your dancing feet, while Pato delivers a message that is food for the mind and soul. Many have considered his charismatic performance as live theatre where no show is alike and audience members become participants in the experience. Pato dialogues with the crowd on a range of topics including current day events and spiritual freedom while keeping the vibes upbeat and fun! The direction of the concert is totally based on the feedback Pato receives from the audience as there is no fixed set list. Many have said that the positivity generated from the stage has changed their lives forever. Sometimes Pato invites his fans to join him in a prayer circle after the show, where some have cried while sharing their stories of contemplated suicide, isolation after losing a loved one, struggles with substance abuse and how their personal connection with Pato has given them the strength to “Stay Positive” & “Never Give In.”
Check out one of Reggae’s greatest this Friday night at the Outer Banks Brewing Station!

Even though this band is known for it’s Hardcore Punk roots (which historically will never be ignored), they dig pretty deep in Reggae. In fact, if you collect all of their reggae songs and throw them on one album, you’d probably put them up there with Reggae’s greatest artists. It’s hard to imagine them throwing such a mellow song in between pure thrash metal mosh pits but hey, that’s what you get with Bad Brains. For a history lesson, click HERE.

“Note”Worthy: Manu Chao
Posted in: Music, Videos
Where to begin describing this guy… Manu Chao sings in French, Spanish, English, Galician, Portuguese, Arabic, and Wolof, often mixing several languages in the same song. His music has many influences, as punk, rock, reggae, ska, French chanson, Iberoamerican salsa, and Algerian raï. Put it all together in a melting pot and stir it around a few times and there you have it. Extremely catchy riffs, mesmerizing beats and worldly arrangements.
