Just added some new pics. Some photos were taken at 10am in Kitty Hawk and the 2nd batch was taken in Nags Head around 3pm. 15.4 feet @ 17 seconds = lots of moving water. Only a few takers today at one of the more popular sandbars.

Even though the final numbers aren’t in, it was clear that last Saturday (July 23) was a complete success. The total number of paddlers this year was 54 which spanned across 6 different divisions. Tons of people showed up despite the 106 heat index matched with 57 degree water temps. Lots of raffle prizes were given away and great food was provided by Bad Bean Baja & Grill. July 23, 2011 (THIS SATURDAY) 18th Annual Surfrider 1-Mile Paddle Race in K.D.H.

Just 2 days away from another awesome event, hosted by the Surfrider Foundation, Outer Banks Chapter. Come out to the Kill Devil Hills bath house, located on Ocean Bay Blvd. this Saturday (July 23, 2011) and show your support and help to raise money for Dare County scholarships and educational programs. Divisions include kids, shortboard, longboard, paddleboard, kayak, and SUP. If you don’t have any equipment and still want to race, there will be boards available. Registration starts at 9am and the race begins at 10. All contestants receive a T-shirt and box lunch from Bad Bean. Entry fees are $20 in advance, $25 on race day. Raffle tickets are already on sale for items like: Custom Short Board from Hooked Surfboards, another surfboard from GFG Surfboards, 2-night stay at the Ramada Inn, Skate/Stick, Nags Head Hammock, backpacks, shoes, massage & acupuncture services, landscaping services, Surfing Magazine subscriptions, tons of gift certificates to surfshops like Coastal Edge and Whalebone Surfshop, WRV, Island Revolution, Restaurant gift certificates to The Outer Banks Brewing Station, Plaza Azteca, Bad Bean Baja & Grill, The Pit Boardrider’s Grill, Pigman’s BBQ, Front Porch Cafe, Goombays, Ocean Boulevard etc…, LOADS of schwag like stickers, sunblock, frisbees, T-shirts……you name it. The 18th Annual Surfrider Paddle Race is Scheduled for Saturday, July 23 in K.D.H.

For all of you who have attended this event in the last 17 years – I’m sure you would agree that it’s a fun day at the beach with lots of great prizes, food and of course… the paddle battles. There’s a division for everyone (groms to grown-ups, short boards to SUP’s). Last year was the most successful event thus far – raising over $5,000 for local scholarships and educational programs. This year the Surfrider Foundation, Outer Banks Chapter is looking to raise even more money as this event just gets bigger and better. So far, tax deductible donations have been flooding in but the Surfrider Foundation needs your help! The deadline for donations (and to get sponsor’s logo/name on posters and T-shirts) is Wednesday, July 6. The numbers are in and it’s official! The Surfrider Foundation/Outer Banks Chapter has raised over $7,000 in a fundraising event benefiting local county schools & educational programs. The 17th Annual Surfrider Paddle Race just keeps getting bigger and better. Let the pictures do the talking…
