Detailed Surf Report: Kill Devil Hills

Tides: High 4:58 am / Low 11:06 am / High 5:29 pm

Brent here with your Kill Devil Hills afternoon surf report. The surf is still in the knee-thigh+ high range with the occasional waist+ high set. Winds are out of the SSW and creating a little surface texture but overall, it’s clean. It’s definitely rideable in town but the further South you drive today, the larger the surf will be so check our Rodanthe / Avon / Buxton pages for the detailed reports. We are approaching high tide so find a sandbar that works and you should be able to find rideable surf. Weather: Showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon. Highs in the upper 70s. Detailed Surf Report: Buxton

Hey guys, This is Curtis, down here in Buxton with your Wednesday morning surf report. The swell is out of the S. In the chest to head high range. Bigger set are coming through. The wind is out of the SW at around 5 to 10 mph. The surf is pretty clean, mostly closing out but there is that lonely peak that would make it all worth it.

Beautiful Sunrise For Thursday, January 26

This winter on the Outer Banks has been unseasonably warm. For people that enjoy the great outdoors, it’s been awesome. For fishermen, not so much as they are waiting for a good cold snap to help bring down the striped bass that have been hanging out in the Chesapeake Bay for the last few weeks. With this great weather, we have had some of the best sunrises/sunsets that I’ve ever experienced in January. Thank you Tammie from Ocean Watch OBX for capturing another great sunrise at Avalon Pier!

Detailed Surf Report: Corolla

HIGH TIDE 4:30 PM / LOW TIDE 10:00 AM

About Time! Wind is off-shore and the swell is out of SE. Wave height is thigh to waist with faces that are almost chest high. As long as the wind stays down, this could be one of the better days in Corolla. Boards of choice: Thruster w/size, dumpster diver plus any long board (high performance or nose rider). A spring suit or surf jacket will keep you warm. NOTE: WE RENT SURF BOARDS FROM 5′ 10” TO 10”. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

Today’s surf is waist to stomach high and choppy with a moderate onshore wind. The water is a perfect 82 degrees and NO JELLYFISH. (at least not when I surfed this morning).

Afternoon Surf Report

Brent here with your 2nd Tuesday afternoon report at 2:40pm. Small scale SE surf continues this afternoon with knee- thigh high semi-glassy/choppy conditions. Sideshore winds at 10-15 mph never make for groomed conditions but there are some longboardable waves to be had. Just don’t expect too much if you plan to surf. SSE winds should decrease as the day goes on and is expected to be variable/minimal wind overnight. Tomorrow’s high tide is 8:36am so if you plan to surf tomorrow, the earlier the better.
