Brent here with your Kill Devil Hills afternoon surf report. The surf is still in the knee-thigh+ high range with the occasional waist+ high set. Winds are out of the SSW and creating a little surface texture but overall, it’s clean. It’s definitely rideable in town but the further South you drive today, the larger the surf will be so check our Rodanthe / Avon / Buxton pages for the detailed reports. We are approaching high tide so find a sandbar that works and you should be able to find rideable surf. Weather: Showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon. Highs in the upper 70s. Hey guys, This is Curtis, down here in Buxton with your Wednesday morning surf report. The swell is out of the S. In the chest to head high range. Bigger set are coming through. The wind is out of the SW at around 5 to 10 mph. The surf is pretty clean, mostly closing out but there is that lonely peak that would make it all worth it.

This is Kevin at Hatteras Island Boardsports with your Avon surf report for Wednesday morning. Surf is in the chest high range and semi-clean. The waves tend to be closing out, but a few will come through clean. SSW wind is blowing at 8 mph forecast to increase to 15 mph and turn more southerly. Be sure to come into the shop and check out the new Simon Anderson surfboards! Already starting to sell they won’t be here long!

Global Surf Network is at it again… organizing another killer event set to take place at Kitty Hawk Kiteboarding Resort in Waves, NC on Tuesday, July 31st, 2012. You can expect to surf all morning, watch some great live music all day and when the sun sets, you can check out a few surf films on a 25 foot outdoor screen. So far, bands include: SOULone, The Blind Prophets, The Kill Circuit, The Grant Austin Taylor Band and Quincy Mumford Band. Also in the lineup, surf films will be provided by “The Wild Lyfe” and “Juice Box Surf“.

About Time! Wind is off-shore and the swell is out of SE. Wave height is thigh to waist with faces that are almost chest high. As long as the wind stays down, this could be one of the better days in Corolla. Boards of choice: Thruster w/size, dumpster diver plus any long board (high performance or nose rider). A spring suit or surf jacket will keep you warm. NOTE: WE RENT SURF BOARDS FROM 5′ 10” TO 10”. GARY, COROLLA SURF SHOP

“Preserve Future Access to S-Turns,” is an effort from the Surfrider Foundation Outer Banks Chapter to ensure that surfers are able to continue enjoying what Surfer Magazine has claimed “one of the 100 best waves in the world”. S-Turns is located just North of Rodanthe on Hatteras Island. The S-Curves/S-Turns area has a deepwater trench offshore that causes the waves to have a bit more energy in comparison to neighboring beach breaks and is one of the most powerful waves on the East Coast. For many surfers, this is the main, if not only reason they decide to travel as far South as Rodanthe to score great surf. Now with the recent damage done from Hurricane Irene, there is the potential to have a permanent bridge built that might restrict all access to this coveted surf spot. To ensure that the Department of Transportation takes into consideration the opinions of surfers and beach goers alike, please take a brief moment to make yourself heard on this online petition: Click HERE: “Preserve Future Access to S-Turns”. Looks like this NE swell has finally started to take shape – going from total chaos to fun rideable conditions. It was suffering a hangover this morning but has significantly improved from yesterday. A few pics were taken this morning and the rest were taken around noon today in Nags Head. Check the report page for details.
