“Bring a Friend to a Surf Contest” this Saturday, October 22, at Jennette’s Pier

Atlantic Surfing Federation NC Chapter will be holding “Bring a Friend to a Surf Contest” this Saturday, October 22, at Jennette’s Pier/Gulfstream Beach Access at 8am. This contest is open to all surfers. If you become a member of ASF by October 31st, you will starting receiving points to help you qualify for the US Championship to be held in June 2012. Also, points will help you qualify for the ASF East Coast Championship to be held in October 2012 at Jennette’s Pier. It is not too late to become a member, and with global points you can surf any chapter of the ASF and get points to help you qualify. Entry forms and drop boxes are located at WRV’s and Whalebone Surf shops. Pick up will be Thursday afternoon or you may enter online at http://nc.atlanticsurfing.org/competition/ though Thursday night. Beach registration will be limited and on a first come first serve basis starting at 7:30 am.
ASF offers many programs for all surfers…To take their surfing to the next level!!! Micro-groms (parent assist), Under 10 (for those who are ready to compete but still want an adult in the water for just in case), Macro-groms (for those who have never surfed a competition before), and Cash for Open division!!!

Atlantic Surfing Federation NC Chapter Contest #3, Saturday, August 13th on Hatteras Island

The NC Chapter of the ASF, a new East Coast surfing organization, is holding their 3rd contest this Saturday, August 13th, on Hatteras Island. Location to be determined later in the week. Something new at this contest is a cash purse for Open division. Channel Island Surfboards is making a pit stop in the Outer Banks to let us try out some of their latest surfboard models. Some boards you might find in the mix are: Fred Rubble, The Dagger, Motor Boat, Cheese Stick, Neck Beard, Semi Pro, Remix and the Warp. I believe it’s located at Barnes Street Beach Access in Nags Head (not S-turns which is what they said on their website). Hurley’s “Rip My Shred Stick” Surf Contest Scheduled on June 23 at Jennette’s Pier

Get ready for Hurley’s FREE surf contest/event for kids in Nag’s Head at Jennette’s Pier June 23rd. This will be a FREE program for all kids 16 and under, where they can meet and surf with professional surfers, including Asher Nolan, Michael Dunphy and Oliver Kurtz. There will be a post-event after party at Whalebone Outer Banks, where kids can come watch a slide show of the day, eat, and create custom Hurley board shorts. The “winner,” or whoever is deemed to be having the most fun, will go home with a GoPro digital sports camera.“Can’t wait for the Rip My Shred Stick Tour to start,” says top East Coaster Michael Dunphy. “The Outer Banks event is the one I’m most excited about because we could get some fun waves.” We want as many kids as possible to be able to benefit from this free event. Here at OBXsurfinfo, we’ve decided to showcase boards of interest by interviewing shapers, retailers, surfers, etc… Our first on the list was a board that grabbed my attention. Channel Island’s (Rob Machado’s) new model called “The Motorboat”. Pete Erickson from Whalebone Surf Shop in Nags Head, NC was kind enough to give us the inside scoop on what looks like a perfect fit for waves here on the Outer Banks. This is our first attempt in showcasing a surfboard of interest so we encourage you all to add comments, discuss, share thoughts, etc… If this is a board that you’d be interested in purchasing, please visit Pete at Whalebone Surf Shop (or a Whalebone Surf Shop near you) as he has proven to be a wealth of information when it comes to pairing your riding style with a surfboard.
