    Atlantic Surfing Federation NC Chapter will be holding “Bring a Friend to a Surf Contest” this Saturday, October 22, at Jennette’s Pier/Gulfstream Beach Access at 8am. This contest is open to all surfers. If you become a member of ASF by October 31st, you will starting receiving points to help you qualify for the US Championship to be held in June 2012. Also, points will help you qualify for the ASF East Coast Championship to be held in October 2012 at Jennette’s Pier. It is not too late to become a member, and with global points you can surf any chapter of the ASF and get points to help you qualify. Entry forms and drop boxes are located at WRV’s and Whalebone Surf shops. Pick up will be Thursday afternoon or you may enter online at http://nc.atlanticsurfing.org/competition/ though Thursday night. Beach registration will be limited and on a first come first serve basis starting at 7:30 am.
    ASF offers many programs for all surfers…To take their surfing to the next level!!! Micro-groms (parent assist), Under 10 (for those who are ready to compete but still want an adult in the water for just in case),  Macro-groms (for those who have never surfed a competition before), and Cash for Open division!!!

    Keep your eyes on the horizon. When the heavy draining fall swells show up between October 15 and December 1st, the 2011 Battle of the Banks will throw down yet another bloody battle. It’s Virginia Beach against Outer Banks in a fight for bragging rights. So far, Virginia Beach has held the title over the last 3 years. Will this be the year when team OBX takes their land back?     The OBX Pro is a $30,000 Profesional Surfing Event held in the Outer Banks every year. Part of the Western Atlantic Surf Series. The first Outer Banks Pro took place at Kitty Hawk Pier in the early 2000′s. Since the beginning, Wave Riding Vehicles has stood for surfing and spreading it’s Aloha throughout the world.  They continue to support professional surfing in all of its forms. With the new construction of Jennette’s Pier, backed by the North Carolina Aquarium, WRV has the unique opportunity to run one of the most core surf contests in the region. Last year saw the largest purse ever brought to the East Coast. The Wave Riding Vehicles Outer Banks Pro Presented by Hurley with a total purse of $30,500 in prize money looks to be another hit this year!     The NC Chapter of the ASF, a new East Coast surfing organization, is holding their 3rd contest this Saturday, August 13th, on Hatteras Island.  Location to be determined later in the week.  Contest entry forms are located on the website or drop boxes are located at WRV’s, The Pit Surf Shop, and Whalebone Surf Shops.  Deadline is Thursday afternoon.  Something new at this contest is a cash purse for Open division.  For more information, check out the website at http://nc.atlanticsurfing.org/ or email Julie Leavel  at juliel@atlanticsurfing.org

    Just 2 days away from another awesome event, hosted by the Surfrider Foundation, Outer Banks Chapter.  Come out to the Kill Devil Hills bath house, located on Ocean Bay Blvd. this Saturday (July 23, 2011) and show your support and help to raise money for Dare County scholarships and educational programs. Divisions include kids, shortboard, longboard, paddleboard, kayak, and SUP.  If you don’t have any equipment and still want to race, there will be boards available. Registration starts at 9am and the race begins at 10. All contestants receive a T-shirt and box lunch from Bad Bean. Entry fees are $20 in advance, $25 on race day. Raffle tickets are already on sale for items like: Custom Short Board from Hooked Surfboards, another surfboard from GFG Surfboards, 2-night stay at the Ramada Inn, Skate/Stick, Nags Head Hammock, backpacks, shoes, massage & acupuncture services, landscaping services, Surfing Magazine subscriptions, tons of gift certificates to surfshops like Coastal Edge and Whalebone Surfshop, WRV, Island Revolution, Restaurant gift certificates to The Outer Banks Brewing Station, Plaza Azteca, Bad Bean Baja & Grill, The Pit Boardrider’s Grill, Pigman’s BBQ, Front Porch Cafe, Goombays, Ocean Boulevard etc…,  LOADS of schwag like stickers, sunblock, frisbees, T-shirts……you name it.  You don’t have to be present to win!     The Outer Banks Pro 2010 will once again return to last year’s venue: The Comfort Inn South in beautiful Nags Head, North Carolina. Hurley and Wave Riding Vehicles are dedicated to making this years event the most exciting and lucrative event on the entire East Coast. Competitor Check-in is September 23rd.  OBX Pro Heats will be running Friday, September 24 – Sunday, September 26. Outer Banks Taco Bar will be serving food, beer will be on tap to benefit The Surfrider Foundation, Outer Banks Chapter and on Saturday starting at 9pm, the OBX Pro Party will be held at the Outer Banks Brewing Station with performances by Dark Horse Saloon, Bastard Lovechild of Rock and Roll, and Sir Nic Bland.
